It is a four year Liberal Arts institution having a fabulous reputation in the Midwest with full academic, extracurricular opportunities, including sports teams. Belleville is informally known as the Capital of Southern Illinois, not only because it is located within minutes of St. Louis, Missouri, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and Scott Air Force Base, but it is also from a short driving distance from Springfield, Illinois (www.Springfield.il.us) and Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois (www.fs.usda.gov/shawnee). Belleville is about 30 minutes from Carlyle Lake in Carlyle, Illinois which features one of the best sailing lakes in the Midwest.
